The AfternicDLS targets small and medium sized businesses, selling the majority of their domains in the four-figure range, but despite that tight focus every now and then they reel in a whale. Such was the case this week as they landed the #1 spot on our new Top 20 chart with the $110,000 sale of OTV.com.
Prices fell off quickly after that, perhaps a symptom of Moniker draining almost $10 million from the market in their live and silent auctions at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East conference in Florida a few days ago (that T.R.A.F.F.I.C. link will take you to our comprehensive conference wrap up article that was published earlier today).

Things should really heat up next week when completed sales from the Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction start reaching our chart. We’ll also be listing the first large scale wave of completed sales from the Domain Roundtable conference live auction in Seattle in August. It has taken some time to make sure the payments from that first time event are all in and the domain transfers completed.
Back to this week’s sales, one anomaly that stands out is the fact that four of the top five domains are non .coms. Two are .mobis and two are ccTLDs. #2 Insurance.mobi secured $42,005 at Sedo while an apparent cat fancier spent €16,944 ($24,158) for Pussy.mobi at the same venue. A third .mobi also made the all extension leader board with #17 Advertising.mobi attracting $12,100 at Sedo. That venue had a big week, accounting for 13 of the 20 chart entries and four of the top five including those two high ranking country code domains – #3 Hotel.pk (Pakistan’s ccTLD) at €25,000 ($35,644) and #4 Hawaii.de (German ccTLD) at €22,000 ($31,367).
SnapNames.com had a pair of top ten entries including #6 Icahn.com ($20,500) and #9 (tie) 1stRealty.com ($17,500). SnapNames landed four names on the elite list overall. Moniker also had multiple entries with #14 QA.net at $14,850 and #19 MyrtleBeachCondos.com at $11,000.
